Curly Hair Extensions: Your Ultimate Guide to Detangling, Maintenance...

Curly hair extensions are the perfect way to amplify your look with volume, bounce, texture, and length however, they also require a little extra love and care. Whether you are rocking our Burmese curly,  kinky curly, deep wave, water wave, loose Indian wave, Indian curly hair, jerry curl bundles or any of our curly hair extensions or curly hair bundles, proper aftercare ensures your curls stay defined, moisturized, and tangle-free for longer lasting beauty. But once the curls are in, how you care for them determines how long they last and how fabulous they look.

At Pro Beauty Calls, we want your curls to stay juicy, soft, and full of life, so here’s your complete aftercare go to guide for caring for curly hair extensions; from detangling tips to preserving those curls between installs.

Why Curly Extensions Need Special Attention

Curly hair extensions mimic natural hair, which means they are prone to dryness, tangling, and matting if not properly maintained. Unlike straight textures, curls need moisture, gentle handling, and defined routines to stay fresh and fabulous.

💧 Step-by-Step Aftercare Routine

1. Hydration is Key

Curly hair craves moisture. Use a sulfate-free, moisturizing shampoo and follow with a rich conditioner. Gently massage the scalp and strands, don’t scrub or bunch the hair together, as this can cause tangles.

Pro tip:Cowash (cleansing with water and conditioner only) between shampoos to keep the hair soft and hydrated without over-stripping natural oils.

2. Detangle With Care

Always detangle curly extensions while wet and saturated with a good slip conditioner. Use a wide-tooth comb, detangling brush, or your fingers to start at the ends and work your way up.

Don’t rush this step. Detangling too aggressively can lead to breakage, shedding, frizz, and curl pattern damage.

3. Define and Style

After detangling, apply a leave-in conditioner and a lightweight curl cream and/or styling mousse to enhance curl definition. Seal with a light weight hair oil or gloss. Scrunch upward with your hands and use a Denman brush for more definition and structure.

Avoid heavy products that weigh curls down or create buildup.

4. Dry Gently

Air drying is best for curly textures, but you can also use a hooded dryer or diffuser on low heat. Also alway use heat protectant when using a dryer or tools. Avoid rubbing with towels, instead, use a microfiber towel or old t-shirt to blot excess water and allow hair to fully dry in rest mode while drying to prevent back of the nape tangling and excessive damage.

5. Nighttime Protection

Protect your curls while you sleep by:

  • Pineappling your hair (a loose, high ponytail)

  • Sleeping on a silk or satin pillowcase

  • Using a satin bonnet or scarf especially to tie down edges and natural hair.

  • AVOID SLEEPING WITH WET OR DAMP HAIR!! (If you must  please secure wet hair in multiple small to medium twist to allow for drying in a safe non tangling way)

This prevents friction, frizz, and tangling overnight.

🚫 Common Mistakes to Avoid

  • Using alcohol-based products that dry out curls (oil sheet, hair spray, harsh shampoos and other products)

  • Brushing dry curls (always detangle wet with conditioner)

  • Skipping deep conditioning and moisturizing sprays

  • Not sealing in moisture with leave-ins or oils

  • Using high heat without protection (choose one up to 450* minimum)
